What is the TECA Fellowship: Charter Cohort?
Similar to the TECA Fellowship, the charter cohort is designed to provide charter school educators with a year-long experience designed to inform and empower them to develop new skills, networking opportunities, growth experiences, and community with other teachers of color.
The inaugural fellowship cohort will consist of 12 Nashville area charter educators of color. The program will focus on:
1) Training teachers of color to be advocates. The training will teach how advocacy impacts policies and how to strengthen relationships between educators and lawmakers.
2) Informing our broader talent strategy. There is no better place to learn how to keep great educators of color than from themselves. The cohort will participate in qualitative and quantitative data collection to gain insights and inform a talent strategy that will support educator diversity.
3) Creating sustainability for educators of color in charter schools. We want to build and retain what's good for the sector by supporting the sustainability of teachers of color working there. Charter schools have some of the most diverse student populations; ensuring that the educator workforce reflects the backgrounds of the student population is critical and necessary.
