The National Weather Service provides SPOTTER Training throughout the state. This training is open to the general public, Amateur Radio operators and public service employees. Spotter training is highly encouraged in order to be effective when serving in a SKYWARN net. Many thanks to those who take the time to obtain this training. Your community appreciates you!!
SKYWARN nets are activated whenever severe weather is likely. Most TN counties have a SKYWARN Coordinator. The Coordinator assures that appropriate "Spotter Training" has been completed and is responsible to activate a local SKYWARN net whenever warranted.
Your active participation in these nets can help save lives and minimize loss.
The Roane/Cumberland/Fentress/Morgan County SKYWARN nets are normally conducted on 147.120 (PL 82.5) The first alternate is 147.330 (PL 82.5). The second alternate is 147.345 (PL 118.8) In the event these repeaters are inoperative we will use 147.420 Simplex Any licensed and Spotter trained operator is encouraged to open a SKYWARN net!
If you would like a copy of a handy Net Log Form just click here.
The MTEARS, wide coverage, linked UHF repeater system is used during any serious weather event. This system covers all of middle TN, a good portion of east and West TN and the northern part of AL. You can learn about and view the status of this system at the MTEARS web site. Plans are underway to expand the coverage throughout TN and into parts KY. Cumberland County repeater is 443.875 (PL 88.5) Bradley County is 442.025 (PL 100.0) Putnam County Repeater is 444.600 (PL 107.2)
When the MTEARS/SKYWARN net is activated one liaison station is required from each effected county to relay information between the local net and the National Weather Service. Please be sure to follow the NWS Spotter Guidelines regarding what to report.
Watch the weather coming from the West with a live Spotter Camera.
