      Emergency Service Nets

A multi-county weekly Emergency Service Net is conducted every Tuesday at 1900 (7:00 p.m.) Eastern Time.  This net is open to all licensed operators interested in Emergency Service.  The net is held on the 147.120 (PL 82.5) repeater with an alternate of 147.330 (PL 82.5).  A second alternate is 147.345 (PL 118.8). These same repeaters are also used when ever a SKYWARN net is activated.

In the event the repeaters are not available the net will be conducted on a Simplex frequency of 147.420 MHz.  It is suggested that everyone program 147.420 into their radios in case the simplex frequency is required.  Tone Alert will be used with a PL tone of 88.5 Hz.  We occasionally simulate repeater failures and utilize the simplex frequencies in order to develop effective "relay" skills.

The purposes of the net are to:

  • Train operators in Directed Net procedures
  • Relay Traffic to/from the National Traffic System
  • Maintain contact with all volunteers
  • Conduct brief training sessions
  • Announce meetings & training opportunities
  • Test Repeater and station equipment

The MTEARS Net (ARES/SKYWARN) meets weekly and is conducted on the UHF linked repeater system.  This net is at 2000 (8 p.m.) Central Time on Monday evenings.  The Cumberland County repeater is 443.875 (PL 88.5) and has a multi-county coverage area.  Timely and valuable training is presented on each of the MTEARS nets. A map depicting the coverage areas for most of the repeaters that are linked in the MTEARS network can be found at the MTEARS web site.

To be USEFUL, we MUST be READY.
To be READY, we MUST be TRAINED.
To be TRAINED, we MUST plan AHEAD.
